Charlize Theron was born on August 7th, 1975 in a small town called Benoni.

At 16 she wented to USA and quickly lost her South African accent.

On her own in the Big Apple at age 18, Theron worked modeling jobs whenever she could get them and swiped bread from restaurants when she couldn't. The cold, wet winters proved especially trying for the South African expat, who was accustomed to much milder seasons, and she found herself continually intimidated by the city's maze of towering skyscrapers.

She studied acting at the Lee Strassberg Institute, and had her first role as a German dominatrix in her school play ROOM SERVICE. She got her first Hollywood starring role in the movie HACKERS. She portrayed the only female in the group capable of reaching elite status in the hacker business. She followed up that initial success with the film FOXFIRE, which is based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates.

Woody Allen gave Theron the chance to spoof her modeling experience as the oversexed supermodel of "Celebrity", and she enjoyed her first starring turn in the Disney remake of "Mighty Joe Young" (both 1998), feeling quite at home as the orphaned African girl who grows up with an orphaned gorilla and remains his devoted protector as an adult.

By the end of 1999 , Charlize Theron starred opposite a trio of Hollywood stars: the New Line horror flick The Astronaut's Wife paired her with Johnny Depp; she joined Tobey Maguire in an adaptation of John Irving's The Cider House Rules; and she participated in the crime drama The Yards which matched her with Joaquin Phoenix.
